Summary

Angisina is safely tied up at Lake Head Basin in Duluth, after a pleasurable delivery from Bayfield over the weekend, and ready for the Duluth Triangle next weekend. The crew as listed above, with with addition of Val's friend Tim.

We left Bayfield shortly after 0600, in dry but overcast conditions, with winds 10-15 from the North West. We motored for the first hour, while enjoying an on-the-water cooked breakfast! Sails up around 0730 helped our speed jump 2-knots. As we picked our way through the islands, and turned towards Duluth, winds picked up to 15-20, so we double reefed the main, reduced the jib, and trimmed to a close-hauled course; Angisina responded with another knot of boat speed!

It’s tough to make the furled jib look good. So, although conditions certainly did not warrant it, Valerie and Andy decided to play with the storm-jib just to practice putting it up and to see what it would look like. Practice complete: we quickly returned to the furled jib and recovered the lost boat speed.

As forecast, the breeze diminished throughout the day, progressively allowing the reefs to be shaken out, and the jib to be fully unfurled. The breeze finally died out around 16:00, with 25 miles still to go. The iron-Genoa took over as we set a direct course for Duluth.

Within sight of Duluth, Valerie had text from Perry that he could clearly see us…….time for the crew to mess with the owner!

PK to VP: “Now you shine bright in the sun!”
VP to PK: “See ya”

Andy started a slow and deliberate turn back towards Bayfield, leaving Angisina broadside to Duluth, and perfectly illuminated in the early evening sunshine.

30 seconds later……..

PK to VP: “Get back here!!!!!!”
VP to PK: “Yes Sir! Yes”

We made the 2100 scheduled bridge opening, with Perry waiting on the pier : I’m sure glad to see his boat safely arrived in port. Tied up by 2130. A very satisfying day, with firsts for many of us.
